About the project: A while ago I suggested that the TrackEditors amoung us (myself included) create some sort of "Classic Ultima". Well nothing came of that idea, but I've always kept it close in my memory. I got further reminded by it, when David Richards suggested a similar sort of thing (perhaps it was in his memory, too!). I've posted a message (click the link to read it) in the TE forum about it, with more details - if you want to see other messages on the subject (from the Classic and History forums - my inital ideas) click here, and here.

This time, I'm really going to make this project come alive and be a success. To do this I need your help (not just TrackEditors, but everyones). I want your opinions on 'what are the most wanted corners?' (and lots of other ideas, too). The corners must, however, be from a 'classic' period, I would consider it to be a pre 1980 limit (with a few exceptions, perhaps).

Of course, it would be great if you can volenteer your skills to the project already, but this will take up a lot of time - just ask SNQQOPY.Dog ("Circuit Ultima" coordinator) and so you need to make sure you have enough time spare, not just now, but in maybe 5 months time, when the project might only just be near completion (hopefully before then, but we want it to be good!).

But what is more important at the moment, is to hear what sort of corners you all would like, so please e-mail me, or preferably use the above survery, thanks - I shall keep you posted on the progress (if this project will come alive [lets hope] then I shall setup a seperate site for it.

Something else that could be put into the final set (I may be jumping the gun a bit here!) is carshapes and carsets, etc. If anyone has any further ideas or can help out, please either e-mail me or fill out the above survey. Thanks a lot. Remember your vote counts towards "Classic Ultima" - the reason why this project didn't get of the ground before, was probably because it was just an idea, this time it is for real, as you can see.

People involved:
So far here is a list of people who is on the team:
Malcolm Mitchell (ICQ# 10610431) - Coordinator + CC-Line (+ misc.)
John Verheijen (ICQ# 18904207) - Objects
Briminir Juraga (ICQ# 40673432) - CC-Line
Mikael Olsson - General editing + Track layout, initial designs
Ingo Serf (ICQ# 2727389) - Track maps
Ando Bosch (ICQ# 12651660) - Heights, Pitlane
Phil Paterson (ICQ# 19132578) - Graphics, misc.
The people listed above will all play apart in deciding the layout of the track, and the corner selection, and bug fixing, etc. too, as well as working on there specialist section.
As I've said, if anyone else feels they can help out, in any way at all, then please e-mail me.
We need someone good (very good!) at graphics, other couple of people to help with the general side of things, specliasts in scenery (quite important!).
Progress report ...
Tuesday, 11 January 2000

No updates here for a very, very long time - sorry about that, but there hasn't really been much to report on. Well, Mikael Olsson has been working on the track layout, and has finished the initial designs of it, and has sent me the track file, so I can test it. I shall be giving him feedback and input, and possible changes to work upon. Then, once we've got the layout completely out of the way, we'll then start to work on everything else, and work will be fully underway. Below you can see what the track layout looks like (click on it for a bigger image). I'm not sue if Mikael's followed the corner order, so you'll have to have a look and tell me, I've not checked it.

Classic Ultima track layout

Saturday, 18 September 1999

No updates here for a couple of months - sorry guys! I've still not got any layouts done. But Mikael Olsson, who is on the project has come up with a proposal, and is going to make the layout on a track file, and then work can begin! I've really been so busy, I've had so little time spare for this. I did come up with a similar proposa to Mikael's actually, we had only a couple of corners difference. Anyway, below you can see the proposal - send any feedback to me, if you have any ideas, etc.
1. Paddock Hill Bend (Brands Hatch)
2. Hella Licht Chicane (from Osterreichring)
3. Turns 4 and 5 (Mosport)
4. Karussell curve (Nurburgring)
5. The Grand Curve (Monza)
6. Scheivlak (Zandvoort)
7. Masta Kink (Spa)
8. The Esses (Watkins Glen)
9. Jukskei Sweep (Kyalami)
10. Woodcote (Silverstone)
Now, this won't be my only chance to work on the project, but in 4 weeks, I've got half-term from school, so I'll be able to put in some serious hours of work on this project then, but until then, it will have to be just the odd update, but at least we can start to get somewhere.
While Mikael works on his layout, I will probably work on mine, and we'll see what happens.
The good news is, work is starting proper now! :) Keep checking back here!

Wednesday, 28 July 1999

Okay, I've had nothing to add to the site, but don't panic, this project isn't forgotten about yet. I'm still working on those initial track layouts, but it is a bit hard on my own! I'll need some help working out distances of corners and sections of tracks, thanks.

Thursday, 8 July 1999

All, no updates for ages! :-( Nothing to add, basically. I'm still working on possible circuit layouts, but this is proving very hard, because I'm not entirly sure of the lengths of corners, sections, etc. I'll get there in the end. 'Till next time ...

Friday, 25 June 1999

Well, I did say Friday evening that the survey would close ... perhaps if Marc Aarts could be bothered to add a link to this site at supposedly the #1 GP2 resource site it wouldn't be closed now, and the team would have got a better variety of corners, and opinions. You can all blame Marc Aarts for that - marca@stack.nl - you might think I'm being a little over the top? Well he found the space to say "Thanks to F1Racer for supporting me and the site. You're a legend!" which has nothing what so ever to do with GP2, and is of no interest to anyone, apart from "F1Racer" - so why couldn't he find room to add a worthy link to a good project, which is for the benefit of GP2?
Anyway, that survey has disapeared now, so I'll be starting, trying, to make the different original track layouts for the circuit, and present them to the rest of the team. And then we'll perfect the 'chosen one'. This should be done in a few weeks time. So if there isn't much happening here, you all know what is happening!

Thursday, 24 June 1999

Don't worry, the project is still alive and kicking! Phil Paterson will be working on the graphics side of things, and any other misc. things, like the whole team. I've had offers from others to join the team as well, but I'm awaiting a reply from them all, to see what experience they've got.
Soon, I'll be creating several different layouts of a possible Classic Ultima. These will not be published on this site, but shown to the whole Classic Ultima team, and we'll all decide on the best layout, and if possible improve it further, then publish it on the site, and then the proper work will commence! :)
If anyone wants to get a say in the layout of the track, please fill out the survey by Friday evening, as it will be the last chance to submit a corner.

Sunday, 20 June 1999

People are loosing in this project already :-( Nothing to add here for over 20 days!! Until today, finally, when I got another survey back. Just after I posted this update, some kind person sent me another survey back in, and some encouraging words in the comments section - whoever you are, thanks! :) And another survey back in, too! This happens with The GP2 History Project, usually - when I complain of no updates, no files coming in, etc. people always send me things the next day - now, when I complain of too few surveys coming back, I get 3 in the space of a few hours! :) And another survey in ... anyone else want to submit there favorite corners?

Saturday, 12 May 1999

Got some more surveys back; the results can be found on the results page - the most recent additions can be found at the bottom of that page, just so you know.

Thursday, 10 May 1999

Today I got some surveys back, but only two, so far, so check the results page, to see what corners they have requested. I'll add those corners to the picture section (to see what they look like) later on today, and any more surveys that come in.

Wednesday, 9 May 1999

Okay, as promised, I've added a new page at the site, so you can see the trackmaps of sections of 'classic' era tracks that people have suggested to me. Click here to see it, and a description of the corners, too.
Again, no surveys back today, either - it is beginning to look like there will be no more, unless someone adds a link to this site! (little hint there!)

Tuesday, 8 May 1999

New on the team is Ingo Serf. Ingo will be making the trackmaps for the circuit - he did the same for Circuit Ultima, I think you'll agree they looked quite good! Also, Ando Bosch is now on the team, too!
No one sent me any new surveys today, so none to add. Hopefully Marc will be adding a link on his site, so then I hope this site will get a lot more hits, thus more surveys.
I think tomorrow I'll be able to put on the site pictures of the corners I've had submitted to me so far (along with descriptions - it is that that takes the time up!).

Monday, 7 May 1999

I'm pleased to welcome Mikael Olsson to the team - he has made several 'classic' era tracks, all of which are quite good - he has a lot of historic and track editing knowledge.
Also, I got another 2 surveys back, they are added to the results page, hopefully there will be a lot more results coming in soon!
Coming up very soon is a new page here, where you can see the corners that people have submitted to me, so far - that will be interesting! ;-)

Sunday, 6 May 1999

Got another 2 surveys back over night, that brings the total to a grand 7!!! Hopefully this will grow soon, when people hear about this new project. Come on people, fill out the survey! What gets me is that in GP2 forums on all different sites (especially in the GP2.COM forum) people always ask for Nürburgring and Le Mans, old Spa' tracks - when I tell people about this new project, no-one cares - people who've filled out the survey obviously realise what this project is all about - gathering great corners from much missed tracks (like Nürburgring) and putting them all together in an ultimate track - "Classic Ultima".
Briminir Juraga has agreed to join the team - he will be working on the CC-Line together with me. I am awaiting e-mails from a few people who I hope also will join the team - so expect names soon! :)
I've also added a results page, where you can see all the results of the surveys I've had back so far - if you've only just submitted your results, and don't see it at that page, don't panic, they'll be there within a few hours.

Saturday, 5 May 1999

Since Friday evening, when I published this survey and information page, I've so far only got back 5 surveys - that isn't that good, but when more people find out about it, and probably in the week, when more people are online (because of work connections) then I'll start getting lots of surveys back to me (I hope!).
Also, John Verheijen has offered his services for the object editing of the track and is actually working on the Object Editor himself, so there isn't anyone much more qualified than him! This is great news, as he is highly respected as one of the best object editors in the "GP2-Community". He has worked on some great tracks, including Circuit Ultima, which was a great success.
Lets hope more people fill out the survey (which can be found above) and that there are other people who are interested in joining the team. If you are, then please e-mail me.
Also, soon I will be publishing the results of the surveys I've got back so far, and creating a totally new site for this project, and I hope people will start linking to it - because we need publicity! :)
