Hi all, there are some things I wanted to say:

Over the last few months, I have been receiving lots of contributions for the site, which didn't follow the rules I asked people to follow. This makes it very hard for me to keep the site running properly.

This site is my hobby and it takes a lot of time, effort and even money to keep it going and that's fine, but it doesn't need to take more than necessary.

With a couple of, rather easy and simple things, you all can help me a lot to keep the site up-to-date and with that, your game as well.

Here are my requests to keep it all as easy as possible, both for me and for the people downloading your stuff:

    • If you send me a mail, try mailing me in English. I don't speak any other language good enough to understand it correctly.

    • Don't send me files over 750 kb without asking first. I have a slow modem and it takes me quite some time to download my mail and upload the files to the site. If you have multiple zips to send me, send them on separate mails. I rather have two 500kb's than one 1000kb mail.

    • Use a compression program like Winzip to make the files you send me as small as can be and put all the files for one submission in one zipfile. Also make sure that you don't include files that are not needed.
For sending jamfiles as with tracks, be sure to convert jams to jads which are a lot better compressable.

    • If you send me something, don't send a bunch of different things in one package. For example, ff you want to submit a carset, don't include lots of sounds and cockpits. Visitors want to download specific things, and not huge files with all kinds of things in it. If you have several things you want to submit, make different package so I can put it in the right section of the site.

    • Use your own name. Nicknames are nice to have, but I don't want to put up files with only a nickname for the author. You have a good name, so use it! Also make sure that you include a valid email address. I don't want submissions from people who can't me emailed.

    • Write a proper gp2form.txt file with a good description of the files you submit and the way they can be used in gp2. Don't send me beautiful stories in Spanish or Finnish as most people can't read those languages. Have a look at this for an example of a good gp2form.txt

    • Give credit to people whose work you use. This is very important! many people work hard to make nice things, and get really disappointed when they see others enhance their work without getting credit for the original.

    • Only send stuff that is not already on the site, and that is a good contribution for others to make their game better. It's no use to send 100 ferrari's with only minor differences! think twice before sending me things: would you like to download a track which is totally undriveable?

    • Don't send me mails with only zips and no text. I'm not a machine and I would like to know who these people are who send me stuff for others, and what they are sending me. It's no fun getting zips only.

That's it. I don't think these requests are unreasonable.

If your submission doesn't comply with these rules, I might be forced not to put it on the site. I will not mail you to say you have done something wrong. In case it's a very little thing you have forgotten or missed, I might correct the problem myself. I reserve the right to change the files you sent me if there is a good reason.

With your help, I want to make (keep?) this site the biggest resource for gp2 available in the world, at least until the release of gp3 and possibly a long time after that.

Any comments, thoughts, remarks, ideas, etc, etc about the site or the way I run things, my rules or anything else are highly appreciated. Feel free to e-mail me any time.

    - Marc Aarts.
