The unsuccessful BRM P15 (or BRM V16) was built by British Racing Motors in 1951. Originally they promissed 500 bhp for the car's engine (much more bhp than Alfa Romeo 159), but it never arrived. The 1,5 liter supercharged V16 engine was so ambitious, but the car had a bad weight distribution, and the project failed in 1951 and never became a sucesfull GrandPrix car. |

When Mercedes-Benz returned to competition in 1954, they impressed the entire world in the French GrandPrix with their streamlined car. Mercedes W196 won that race and later two consecutive F1 championships, both by Juan Manuel Fangio. The car was unbeatable when it was racing. In the ultra-fast tracks (Reims, Monza) Mercedes used the streamlined car, and in the rest the traditional model. Mercedes-Benz left the competition in the end of 1955, after the Le Mans tragedy, when a Mercedes Sport Cart (300 SLR) killed more than 80 people and the frech driver Pierre Levegh. |
